On-The-Fly Parallel Decomposition of Strongly Connected Components

چکیده

Several algorithms exist for decomposing strongly connected components (SCCs). To accommodate recent non-reversible trends in hardware, we focus on utilizing multi-core architectures. Specifically, we consider parallelizing SCC algorithms in the setting of an on-the-fly implementation (to be able to detect SCCs while constructing the graph which is particularly useful for several verification techniques). We show that the current solutions are not capable of scaling efficiently and we propose a new algorithm that is able to do so. Our parallel algorithm is (in contrast to the existing approaches) specifically designed to communicate partially discovered SCCs between workers. This is achieved by using a shared Union-Find structure. This structure has been extended to efficiently keep track of the search paths for each worker in combination with means to iterate and communicate fully explored vertices. We show that the designed algorithm is provably correct and performs in quasi-linear time. Experiments show that it outperforms existing techniques.

Accelerated decomposition techniques for large discounted Markov decision processes

Many hierarchical techniques to solve large Markov decision processes (MDPs) are based on the partition of the state space into strongly connected components (SCCs) that can be classified into some levels. In each level, smaller problems named restricted MDPs are solved, and then these partial solutions are combined to obtain the global solution. In this paper, we first propose a novel algorith...

Efficient GPU algorithms for parallel decomposition of graphs into strongly connected and maximal end components

This article presents parallel algorithms for component decomposition of graph structures on general purpose graphics processing units (GPUs). In particular, we consider the problem of decomposing sparse graphs into strongly connected components, and decomposing graphs induced by stochastic games (such as Markov decision processes) into maximal end components. These problems are key ingredients...

Distributed Algorithms for SCC Decomposition

We study existing parallel algorithms for the decomposition of a partitioned graph into its strongly connected components. In particular, we identify several individual procedures that the algorithms are assembled from and show how to assemble a new and more efficient algorithm, called Recursive OBF, to solve the decomposition problem. We also report on a thorough experimental study to evaluate...
